What could mete out an elderly woman,otherwise,stout,to hold trouble weaning from ventilator,even after trachy?
The longer a person is on a ventilator, the more difficult it is to wean the creature off. The diaphragm, which is the muscle needed to breathe, "forgets" how to move! The entity has to be slowly weaned to regain the muscle strength surrounded by the diaphragm.
Any number of diseases, brain injury, pneumonia...the list go on forever..
Talk to her doc...and have him/her explain to you exactly what is going on..and ask him/her to do it within language you can apprehend..
I presume you are a relative? Of more interest is probably what will happen if this lenient cannot live without the ventilator. One usually wishes to avoid that in the elderly but recurrently it becomes an issue of ' taking stale the machines' depending on what state you live in. Sort of resembling feeding tubes that preserve people nourish but they really arent alive.
